New collaboration to advance firefighter health research and real-world impact
CRACKYL Magazine and FIREWELL are proud to announce a new strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the connection between firefighter health research and real-world application across Canada.
This collaboration brings together FIREWELL’s research expertise and CRACKYL’s national
platform and reach within the fire service to support the advancement, translation, and adoption
of critical health and wellness insights for firefighters.
As research continues to evolve around firefighter exposures, long-term health risks, and
performance factors, both organizations recognize a growing need to ensure that this work not
only advances academically, but also reaches firefighters in a way that is practical, accessible,
and actionable.
“Supporting the science and research in the firefighting space is one of our highest priorities,”
said Kory Pearn, Founder and Publisher of CRACKYL Magazine. “We believe in elevating the
people doing this work — those who are helping us better understand our exposures, the risks
we face, and the factors that can impact our long-term health and performance. We support this
work wholeheartedly, and we’re extremely excited about this partnership here in Canada. This is
about making sure that the knowledge being developed doesn’t stay in reports, but actually
reaches firefighters in a way that can make a difference.”
Through this partnership, CRACKYL and FIREWELL will work collaboratively to highlight
ongoing research, support knowledge translation, and explore opportunities to bridge the gap
between research findings and firefighter behavior, training, and departmental practices.
“As the Scientific Director of FIREWELL, I am pleased to collaborate with CRACKYL as we
share the goal of getting research into the hands of firefighters in a way that is useful and
usable. CRACKYL will allow us to directly share information about emerging firefighter health
research to a broader audience of firefighters,” said Dr. Joy MacDermid, PhD, Founder and
Scientific Director of FIREWELL.
Together, the organizations aim to contribute to a stronger, more informed fire service — one that
is better equipped to understand risk, support firefighter health, and improve long-term
outcomes for those serving their communities.
