Some weeks remind me how far we’ve come in firefighter health and wellness, and how much we still avoid.
We talk about the physical toll of the job because it’s visible, but the real damage often lies in the places no one sees – inside our minds, bodies, and families. Too many firefighters are carrying that weight in silence, hoping it doesn’t catch up to them.
I had a moment recently that drove this home, and it reinforced why these conversations matter, and why the path forward starts with us, and not the system.
