Dr. Virginia Loewenstine, CEO and medical director of Tristate Preventive Health, answers your questions
Q: I have been a firefighter for 15 years and I am starting to second guess my ability to run so many calls. Am I just going through a phase?
A: This concern should be taken seriously and not be considered a phase to get through. As we know, firefighters are always on high alert and as years go on, this not only takes a toll on the body but also on a person’s mental health.
Don’t be silent! Reach out to your captain or chief, your doctor, and a mental health provider. Remember, second guessing your ability could put you in harm’s way, hurting yourself and your co-workers. Be proactive.
