The Standing Triceps Stretch is designed to release tension in the shoulders and upper arms – areas that take on a heavy load when you’re lifting, reaching, or operating equipment. This stretch uses a “contract and relax” technique to help improve flexibility and restore mobility. Take a minute to reset, breathe deeply, and let your body start to recover with this simple, effective movement.
Standing Triceps Stretch Instructions
- Stand tall with your back straight and neck in a neutral position
- Extend one arm overhead, reaching towards the ceiling
- Bend the extended arm at the elbow, bringing your hand down toward the opposite shoulder blade
- Use your opposite hand to gently press on the bent elbow, assisting in the stretch
- Push your elbow into your hand to create contraction as you inhale
- Relax as you exhale deeper into the stretch
- Repeat this “contract and relax” pattern for 30 seconds
- Find your end range and breathe deeply in and out as you relax into this position for another 30 seconds
