If you have two minutes, take them now to reconnect with something steady and reliable — your own awareness. In firefighting, your attention is constantly directed outward: scanning, assessing, responding. This brief mindful meditation is a chance to intentionally turn inward and let your nervous system reset.

We’ll begin by simply observing your breath, the way your body is seated, and the environment around you. There’s nothing to fix or change. Then, we’ll gently move toward focusing on wherever you feel your breath most clearly, staying present with it as best you can. This is about staying on scene with your own experience, the same way you do on the job: steady, attentive, and grounded.

For now, settle into your seat. Let your body be supported. Allow your breathing to find its natural rhythm, and give yourself permission to arrive fully in this moment:
